Way Back in November of Nineteen, Ninety-Seven
You were part of a special package delivered directly from Heaven
On you and your littermates I had planned for so long
And there you all were, beautiful, healthy and strong
What a grand time I had watching you all grow
But around you there was always a special glow
A friend asked for you, her heart & head told she needed you so
And so it was decided, off to Kansas you would go
In puppy classes you were sometimes clumsy and unsure, like Bambi on ice
Yet, you still managed a five point major, not only once but twice
Finished before you grew into the dog you would be
You were always appreciated by Charlie and me
In an x-pen you would bounce into the air
Letting everyone know that "Vinnie" was there
You flirted with the ladies you were such a ham
And your legacy we were just really starting to plan
Suddenly, without warning you were called away
Leaving Charlie and I nothing to do but pray
Life is uncertain we know that going in
But why did it happen to my beautiful "Vin Vin"
Tears of sorrow and tears of anger I cried
Still no one has the answers to why you died
All I know is that you always brightened my world,
I smile as I picture you "bouncing" about heaven with your spirit unfurled
I suspect your mother & grandma immediately started licking your face
And I have no doubt they quickly put you in your place.
The heavens once more hold a beautiful soul.
One who was not allowed to grow old
I'll miss seeing you as I did from time to time
Still your place in my heart will continue to shine
