“Lobo”
July 8, 2000 - December 14, 2009
So long ago on that hot July day
I knew you were just one more push away
Your mother rose to her feet and pushed with all her might
And this sack of puppy landed in my hands just right
A quick cleaning by your mother and me
And a beautiful fawn boy was there for the world to see
You squealed with delight as you found your mothers teat
You always made sure you had plenty to eat
Grandpa Herb would come to visit at the whelping box
And he would point to you and call you his little red “fox”
Your rich fawn color did make you stand out
You were a handsome fellow, of that there was no doubt
I had plans for all of you but in the days ahead
It was clear you would follow another path instead
What a foursome you and your litter mates were
You traveled in a pack and rushed by with a blur
Then the day came another would claim you as her own
After a long journey to Canada you finally landed at home
That excited phone call from Marta announcing your arrival was my best reward
And as the years went by it was no surprise as you garnished award after award
You helped seal the true meaning of friendship with your new Mom
And I know that friendship will still go on and on even now that your gone
You faced every challenge with your spirit so strong
And I’m grateful to your Mom for letting me tag along
The air is cold on this December day, but the sun is shining bright above
Now somewhere beyond our reach you will be rewarded for your undying love
Goodnight Sweet Prince as Marta bid you goodbye at the last
For me you dwell in my heart as that eternal puppy from my past
